TOROA, the Albatross, are guardian figures in many cultures especially for seafarers, and to see them in the stormy conditions where they seem so in control of adversity is to become hooked on watching these sea monarchs as they wheel and glide with effortless ease. Toroa have become woven into Maori lore, song and art. Their weeping eyes gave rise to the saying ‘Roimata Toroa’ as a sign of true affection.
